Welcome to FIrst Response FIrearms training page.Our classes are taught in a relaxed, comfortable, non-intimidating atmosphere . We provide Texas License to Carry classes, firearms training/safety courses, introductory pistol classes, and private instruction on pistols or rifles. We want you, our valued customer, to be happy.

NOTE: The Texas License To Carry (formally CHL) Class IS NOT a Beginners Shooting Class. You MUST KNOW HOW TO OPERATE AND SHOOT A GUN in order to pass the shooting Proficiency Test. DO NOT Register for this Class if you do not know how to shoot without making arrangments prior to the class to learn the basics. You can do that in our recommended NRA Basic Pistol Course below or through private instruction.

Many people who are interested in the License class have not yet learned to shoot, so for them, we also offer this: Our objective is to teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.  You will also learn all the material needed to obtain the Texas permit to carry pistols and revolvers. Course is

     Course contents:

  • Firearm safety
  • Handgun features and nomenclature
  • Revolver vs. semi-automatic
  • Action types
  • Ammunition types
  • Safe pistol loading and clearing
  • Eye dominance
  • Establishing the shooting platform
  • Dry-fire and live-fire practice

More Details: This course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.
